Consistent

And that's consistent in my inconsistency. Yes, my last blog post here was February. Eight months ago. I thought in February that I would be writing some vaguely interesting posts with more frequency! Imagine that.

As usual, writing keeps going. It has been a little slower this year thanks to being in the second year of working from home and being desperate to get out of the room I work in, which coincidentally also happens to be the room I would write in (the west wing is planned for the future, don't worry).

In book news, The Dead and the Rotten nears first draft completion. I have to admit, recent events have made this one a bit more of a difficult thing to write and I expect it may be the same in terms of reading. My antagonist here is the worse. Still undecided as to whether I should write Delvers of the Domed Marvel before publishing The Dead... I'm going to ask a question here and I understand that it is unlikely to see a response given my sporadic appearances but, readers of my books, would you prefer to see Marigold directly after The Vile Realm, or are you happy to check out his escapades during his twenties?

Rinztown - the coastal setting of The Dead and the Rotten

I'm very much looking forward to writing The Unspeakable Below as well, but as a follow on from The Dead and the Rotten that one will have to wait. Other ideas of late have been an Aveline focused story, as she will spent a good deal of time alone in Rumiruna before Marigold comes seeking her. I've even been toying with Grim Work from the perspective of Cezare! That and the numerous shorts, a great war, and the resolution to a certain cosmic horror mean that I probably have more things to write than breaths left in my body.

Of course, it could all go a lot smoother if I just didn't feel the need to get outside constantly. Writing notwithstanding, it has been a good summer. I've been out nearly daily with the camera and in particular this year I've been hunting butterflies. Yep, from gnarled barbarian to fluttering insects. That's variety, eh? Rather than post all the photos, I'll just leave a link to the year's photos:

So, it certainly seems that 2021 will be without a release from me. And I do apologise for that as I've started seeing reviews from readers eagerly awaiting my next book. Still, multiple works are in progress, so you never know, 2022 could be a bumper!
